About Me

My name is Diane Aull, but many people online know me as “Torka.” You can learn more about me here. But in a nutshell, I’ve been designing and coding websites since the mid 1990s. Over the years I’ve lost count of how many sites I’ve worked on; I’m currently a website manager for a mid-sized company in Raleigh, NC, with responsibility for multiple web properties in addition to a handful of sites (such as this one) I run in my spare time.

In other words, I pretty much live here on The Interwebs.

Beyond that, I inhabit the same world you do: budget constraints, limited resources and high management expectations. Corporate politics. Conflicting priorities. All those annoying laws of physics that prevent us from traveling faster than the speed of light, being in two places at once or extending the day beyond 24 hours.

I know you want to generate more business from your website. I also understand you may not have a big budget to hire a high-powered SEO, and don’t want to waste your money on a cheap (but ineffective) service. And from years of in-the-trenches practical experience, I know the kinds of things that will get you the most bang for the buck when you set out to improve your site. The purpose of BootstrapSEO is to give you hype-free, actionable information you can use if you’re trying to optimize your website on your own, or if you just want to evaluate the usefulness of what your hired-gun SEOs are doing.

If you’re keen to DIY, but you need a bit more of a jumpstart than you get from the articles here, check out the site audit reports and consulting services my partner Roseann and I offer at NineYards.com. Combine a detailed site evaluation and recommendations with the tips and ideas you get here, and you’ll be well on your way to a strong and profitable website.

Can’t get enough of my tough love? I’m a moderator at the High Rankings forums and the Small Business Ideas forums, and I write a column at Search Engine Guide. You’ll find plenty of additional (free) advice there. So stop by and be sure to say “hi!”
